USING MIDI PLAYER... This MultiMedia application is intended to play single MIDI files or a group of files in the background (a la Muzak) while allowing foreground applications to run. MIDI Player uses the mciSendString function to play .mid files. INSTALLATION Put all the files in a subdirectory ("midip" ?) to keep them together. Install midip.exe using the Program Manager "new" function. Edit your autoexec.bat to include the following line: MIDHLP=c:\mwin\midip (substitute your actual path after the = sign) This will enable MIDI Player to find its help file even though you have changed the path to another directory. CONTROLS I. MENU File ---- Add To PlayList - Use the File Controls to point to a subdirectory containing .mid files. Each file you click on will be added to the playlist. When the list is complete, click on "OK". Open - Use this command to open a previous playlist (*.mpl) file. Save - Saves the current playlist to a file using current filename Save As - Saves the current playlist under a new name Exit - (what it says) Edit ---- Insert - Add a new .mid filename to current playlist Delete - Delete a .mid filename from the current list Clear List - (what it says) Help ---- Using MIDI Player - Scroll through help file (see installation note above) About MIDI Player - Usual fascinating stuff... This app uses a fairly crude technique to allow playing MIDI files withou tying up Windows in the process. It uses the mciSendString command to poll the driver until the message "stopped" tells the software to continue processing the next .mid file.
